Job summary

BBC Local Radio is seeking an experienced journalist and bulletin reader to be the voice of BBC Local News across 39 stations, delivering authoritative, engaging bulletins and producing audio for multi-platform use. The role requires delivering news under tight deadlines and collaborative work with the Central Team in Salford.

You will read bulletins with confidence, report live on breaking news, and help innovate to extend BBC Local's reach.

Job description

This is a great opportunity to be the voice of BBC Local Radio news across our 39 stations each evening. We're looking for an experienced journalist and bulletin reader with great delivery and authority. You'll bring an energy to showcase the best of our local journalism to wider audiences, and will be as comfortable producing audio as you are dealing with breaking news. You'll have a strong drive to innovate, collaborate and create impact as part of the wider Central Team at the heart of BBC Local.

• Demonstrable experience as a journalist, including producing and delivering accurate, engaging news content to tight deadlines in a live or fast paced environment
• Proven experience of preparing and reading news bulletins, with a confident, professional broadcast voice and strong editorial judgement
• Evidence of live reporting on breaking news or major events, showing the ability to remain calm, accurate and responsive under pressure
• Strong multi-platform experience, collaborating with teams to maximise reach.
• Knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines, with the ability to work in a team environment under pressure.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

• An understanding and working knowledge of the BBC's products, such as BBC News Online and/or BBC Sounds.
• Experience of working with national news and planning teams to create high-impact moments.

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600-£34,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
