Job Description

As Team Leader on the JUWC you will play a crucial role in managing, mentoring and developing Environmental Crime Officers within the team & reporting to the Senior Team Leader to manage hostile situations & proactively manage the health and safety of yourself and others
This is challenging & varied role, in which you will organise & conduct multi-agency operations. This includes leading the team, delivering interventions to prevent, disrupt and enforce against those engaged in serious and organised crime.
You will work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including other Environment Agency teams, law enforcement agencies, and legal professionals. You will manage and maintain relationships with key partners as well as building new relationships to ensure the JUWC is continually expanding.
There may also be a requirement for you represent the unit or deputise for the unit manager or senior team leader at meetings or events.

As a national role, regular pre planned travel should be expected and occasional overnight stays may be required. The main enforcement hub is in Birmingham which you will need to attend occasionally in order to maintain the visibility of the unit, develop investigations or attend meetings.
The team
The Joint Unit for Waste Crime (JUWC) is a multi-agency taskforce. It works in partnership to tackle serious and organised crime in the UK waste industry.

Experience/skills Required
We are seeking leadership experience in order to remotely manage a dispersed team delivering results in this role.
You will have knowledge in criminal investigations and the experience of handling of intelligence. An understanding of the process for managing and targeting Organised Crime Groups is desirable.
One of your key attributes will be the ability to create and maintain positive, professional and trusting relationships across enforcement and intelligence communities to deliver successful outcomes.
Essential
A full UK drivers license is required.
The role is dependent on vetting being acquired to SC Security Clearance and NPPV2.
Desirable
The ideal candidate would have a good knowledge of the legislation which governs criminal waste investigations, such as for example the Environmental Permitting Regulations, the Environment Act, the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, CPIA and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.

This is a hybrid role, with a base location at your local Environment Agency office.
Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises.Further information on incident response can be found within the candidate pack.

Role specific license requirements
Driving Licence
If you are applying from the Civil Service please note that the Environment Agency is not a part of HM Civil Service and you would not be a Crown Servant in the event of being appointed. Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service. For applicants who currently work in local government or other bodies listed in the Redundancy Payments (Continuity of Employment in Local Government etc) (Modification) Order 1999, you may be eligible for continuous service for the purpose of calculating any future redundancy payment.
