The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
The Joint Force Vetting Unit, based at HQ Lewes, covers both Surrey and Sussex force areas and is seeking 3 Vetting Caseworkers to join the team. This vacancy is being advertised on an initial 2 year secondment, with the view to extending up to 4 years.
The role will be to undertake the vetting research function and provide advice relating to security vetting procedures, including a variety of computer system checks and enquiries. The post-holder will often be required to offer credible advice concerning highly sensitive personal issues such as finance and relationships. Therefore, we are looking for individuals who can demonstrate tact, diplomacy and the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality within a secure environment.
The post-holder will be responsible for creating, updating and quality assuring information onto the force vetting database, ensuring intelligence data is submitted and inputted to a consistently high standard, reviewed and updated, logging sensitive personal data and Police and National Security Vetting Levels.

Skills & Experience
Essential:
You must be a competent and organised administrator, able to work with minimum supervision and be relied upon to use your initiative to achieve results within agreed timescales. You will need a high level of computer literacy and be able to demonstrate a good operational knowledge of the Intranet and Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook. Proven experience of obtaining and collating relevant information to identify potential security risks, with the ability to analyse large amounts of information in differing formats. The ability to acquire and apply knowledge to learn appropriate legislation and administrative policies, procedures and systems in order to ensure that intelligence and data is managed correctly. Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving skills are essential.
The successful candidate will need to obtain Security Check (SC) level Vetting Clearance for the role and have 5 years UK residency.
Desirable:
Experience of relevant Police and partnership agency computer systems necessary to undertake a wide range of system checks in order to complete the vetting process (e.g., PNC, PND, Experian, Centurion, NSVS, Niche, Open Source / Social Media). Training will be provided. Excellent interpersonal skills with well-developed oral communication to utilise skilled interview techniques to obtain voluntary information (conditional clearances and security vetting briefings).
