Job description

Johnson & Alcock is looking for a full-time office manager and financial controller to work at our busy literary agency

The role will combine accounts work with general administrative support for all the primary agents, and our busy foreign rights department. We are currently working remotely, but the role will be London-based.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to work at the heart of an established literary agency, now in its seventh decade and constantly expanding and innovating. We pride ourselves on representing our authors with care, creativity and hard work, and seek to develop our authors’ careers in a safe and nurturing environment. We sell rights direct into the UK, US and translation markets, and our list runs from debut writers to established bestsellers, across all genres, with writers based all around the world.

Responsibilities will include:

• Inputting contractual and financial data on Bradbury Phillips
• Managing the office account and liaising with accounts staff who process incoming payments
• Invoicing publishers and making payments to our authors
• Collating and chasing royalty statements and updating records
• Dealing with author queries
• US and translation tax exemption forms
• Reversion of rights
• Permissions
• Assisting with arrangements for bookfairs
• General office management

We are looking for an engaged, proactive candidate with some knowledge and experience of a role of this nature. This can be within publishing, or another similar creative industry or agency setting. The ideal candidate will be organised, efficient, proficient with Word and Excel, and preferably with some knowledge of Bradbury Phillips or other rights management software.

We are a small, friendly company and we prioritise our work/life balance and pastoral care and strive to provide a welcoming and supportive workplace for people of all ages, races, backgrounds and identities. And we are committed to increasing representation and reducing inequality across our industry.

Salary: between £22K and £27K per annum, depending on experience
