Summary

We are seeking a dynamic Specialist Pharmacist in Clinical Services to join our team at NHS Jobs. This role is pivotal in leading and enhancing our clinical pharmacy services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist for Clinical Services as necessary.
  • Lead clinical pharmacy services for patients within the Care Group alongside the Principal Pharmacist.
  • Propose and implement policies and procedures to improve the pharmacy service, aligning with national and international guidelines.
  • Lead and comment on policy and service changes, contributing to pharmacy service developments in line with departmental and Trust policy.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate evidence-based prescribing guidelines and protocols for Trust-wide and Acute Speciality Medicine use.
  • Ensure services align with local and national policies, guidelines, and frameworks.
  • Contribute to and adhere to clinical pharmacy service standards.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Act as a specialist practitioner and expert pharmacist in the Care Group.
  • Promote and deliver pharmaceutical care for Care Group patients and the wider patient population.
  • Provide highly specialised, evidence-based clinical advice and information to healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in and contribute to the clinical/ward pharmacy service.
  • Actively participate in consultant ward rounds as appropriate.
  • Participate in outpatient clinics and assist in further developing the pharmacist’s role in this area.
  • Undertake patient medication review sessions and patient reviews in outpatient clinics as necessary.
Financial Management
  • Support the Principal Pharmacist in monitoring drug expenditure within the Care Group, providing accurate expenditure information to the Clinical Director and General Manager.
  • Identify potential cost-saving areas within the Care Group and implement systems to achieve savings and control prescribing costs.
  • Use horizon scanning techniques to identify future high-cost medications.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies to control drug expenditure and ensure cost-effective prescribing.
