Job Description:

About the Company

A leading UK manufacturing business with a longstanding reputation for engineering excellence is seeking a skilled Jigs & Fixtures Design Engineer to support continued growth and innovation. Operating across multiple advanced manufacturing sites, the company serves a diverse range of sectors including agriculture, commercial, and industrial markets. With a focus on delivering high-quality, durable products, this organisation prides itself on combining modern technology with traditional manufacturing values.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Jigs & Fixtures Design Engineer to take ownership of jig, fixture, and stillage design for new product introductions. Additionally, there is potential for a second position focused on the maintenance and optimisation of jigs and fixtures supporting existing production lines.

This role demands a deep understanding of fabrication and welding processes, particularly in environments utilising robotic welding. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with design, production, and quality teams to ensure that all tooling solutions are robust, efficient, and aligned with manufacturing objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of jigs, fixtures, and stillages to support production.
  • Ensure all designs comply with Design for Manufacture (DFM) standards.
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams to deliver effective, right-first-time tooling solutions.
  • Provide technical support and resolve jig and fixture-related issues across multiple sites.
  • Create precise 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure clear communication across departments.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites as required to oversee implementation and address operational needs.
  • Strong expertise in fabrication and welding, including the application of weld symbols.
  • Proven track record in jig and fixture design, ideally incorporating robotic welding considerations.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience within a fabrication or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Background in sectors such as:
  • Yellow Goods manufacturing (e.g., construction or agricultural machinery)
  • Heavy Plant and Equipment
  • Fabrication suppliers to these industries.
  • Comprehensive understanding of component positioning within fixtures to optimise welding access, particularly for automated systems.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD and the production of engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Flexibility to travel between operational sites.
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM.
  • Knowledge of Poka-Yoke principles in fixture design.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths at grade B or above (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced competence in SolidWorks during the interview process.

The Offer

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking manufacturing organisation where you will play a key role in enhancing production efficiency and supporting the delivery of high-quality engineered products. The company offers a collaborative working environment and the chance to work on a variety of challenging and rewarding projects.
