Role/Job Title: Java Technical Lead

Work Location: Bournemouth, UK

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Java Technical Lead to oversee the technical delivery of software development projects—both internally and on behalf of clients. You will be instrumental in guiding the team, ensuring adherence to best practices and Agile methodologies, and will actively contribute to coding (approximately 50% of your capacity). You will also collaborate closely with project stakeholders to align technical solutions with business needs.

A deep understanding of the UK insurance market is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be a certified expert in their field and demonstrate a strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.

Your Responsibilities

• Support design and development teams throughout the entire project lifecycle: understanding business requirements, conducting proofs of concept, testing, and implementation support.
• Produce detailed design documentation in collaboration with Solution Architects, Technical Architects, and Infrastructure Designers.
• Engage with Business Stakeholders to ensure Requirements Definitions and User Stories are complete and suitable for the development team.
• Maintain a deep understanding of business domains relevant to project deliverables.
• Propose and articulate creative, well-thought-out solutions that maximize business benefits.
• Mentor the team, organizing mentoring for junior members by more senior colleagues.
• Engage in hands-on coding for approximately 50% of your role.

Your Profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience developing Java applications for web and middleware using Spring 5+ and Java 11+.
• Strong knowledge of other relevant technologies, including Spring Boot, MVC, Integration, Spring Security (OAuth2).
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies.
• In-depth understanding of web services (SOAP and RESTful).
• Proven ability to support design and development teams across the project lifecycle.
• Deep understanding of Design Patterns and their application.
• Ability to produce comprehensive design documentation aligned with architecture and infrastructure.
• Skilled at working with business stakeholders to validate requirements and user stories.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to mentor the team and foster professional growth.
