Job summary

A worldwide technology consultancy is seeking a Java Technical Architect to lead the design and development of high-performance applications. The candidate must have over 6 years of experience in Java and AWS microservice architecture. This role involves architecting robust systems and leading technical discussions. The position allows for remote work with occasional onsite presence in Manchester.

Java Technical Architect
6 Month contract initially
Based: Manchester/Remote (Max 2-3 days per week onsite in Manchester)
Rate: £550 - £600 p/d (via Umbrella company)

We have a great opportunity with a world-leading organisation offering support and development to succeed. We are seeking a highly skilled Java Technical Architect to lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance applications and solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong technical leadership skills, deep Java & AWS expertise, and a passion for designing clean and robust architectures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect and design scalable, secure, and robust backend systems using Java and related frameworks.
  • Define best practices and coding standards for development teams.
  • Lead technical discussions, code reviews, and mentoring sessions.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, external customers, and stakeholders to translate complex requirements into architectural designs aligned with strategic goals.
  • Maintain relationships with enterprise architects and engineering leaders to define roadmaps and evaluate solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Lead architecture and engineering of various architectures, including microservices and event-driven architectures on-premises and AWS cloud, leveraging services like Lambda, API Gateway, Aurora, DynamoDB, ECS, etc.
  • Design end-to-end high scalable, robust, and complex solutions using best practices and design patterns, following Agile and waterfall methodologies.
  • Ensure adherence to architectural principles, system reliability, performance, and security.
  • Participate in discovery, estimation, planning, and research emerging technologies.
Key Skills & Experience:
  • 6+ years in Java/AWS microservice architecture.
  • Strong understanding of microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Proficient in relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS & GCP).
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of design patterns, OOP, and clean code practices.
  • Experience with Git, Jenkins, CI/CD, Terraform.
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and stakeholder management skills.

Tech Stack includes Java/J2EE, Python, Springboot, Micronaut, Dropwizard, GraphQL, API Design, AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, various design patterns, RDBMS & NoSQL, CI/CD tools, and AI tools.
