Job summary

Spencer Rose Limited is seeking an experienced Software Engineer (Java) for a Tier-1 banking client in Manchester on an initial 6-month contract. Start ASAP with interviews within 2 days. Location: Manchester; 2 days a week in the office.

Rate: £pd Inside IR35. Duration: 6 months plus. The role focuses on building robust microservices and REST APIs using Java 11+ and Spring Boot 3.x, with deployment in cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) and container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes).

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Java 11+ and Spring Framework.
• Proven ability to design and develop microservices and REST APIs using Spring Boot 3.x.
• Experience with Kafka/Kafka Streams for data pipelines.
• Solid SQL skills, data modelling and data analysis capabilities.
• Cloud experience across AWS, GCP or Azure, ideally including GKE.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and Jenkins; IAM and API gateways such as Apigee.
• Proficiency in Python, Pytest, API automation and ETL testing.
• Strong understanding of TDD/BDD, unit/integration testing and shift-left testing.
• Awareness of security, performance testing and observability tools (Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus).
• Experience using Jira, Xray and Allure Reports.
• Banking or financial services domain knowledge is highly desirable.
