DWP Digital is seeking a skilled Java Software Engineer to help design, develop and operate cloud-first digital services for Debt Management and Compensation Recovery at scale.

You will join a multidisciplinary team delivering secure, resilient products used nationwide, leveraging Java 21+, Spring Boot and Azure. The role emphasizes API design, microservices and modern data stores in a collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Experience developing APIs, RESTful services and microservice architectures.
• Experience working within Azure cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of event-driven technologies, including Azure Service Bus.
• Strong understanding of Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD).
• Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB.
• Experience working in agile multidisciplinary teams to deliver user-centred digital services.
• Proven experience developing large-scale systems using Java 21+ and open-source technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support modern digital services as part of DWP's Debt Services function.
• Work within a multidisciplinary team delivering Debt Management and Compensation Recovery products.
• Contribute to design, development and operation of secure, scalable, resilient products used at national scale.
• Promote best practices and support the wider engineering community across DWP.
