Job summary

DWP. Digital with Purpose. is hiring a Java Software Engineer to build modern cloud-first services for the Debt Services function. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to design, develop and operate secure, scalable software used across the country.

The role emphasizes Java 21+, Spring Boot, Azure, and event-driven architectures, with a strong focus on TDD/BDD and collaborative engineering culture within a large public sector organisation.

Qualifications

• Experience developing APIs, RESTful services and microservices.
• Experience with Azure cloud platforms including Azure Service Bus.
• Strong knowledge of TDD/BDD practices.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Experience in agile multidisciplinary teams delivering user-centred services.
• Proven track record building large-scale systems with Java 21+ and open-source tech.

• Develop and support modern digital services as part of DWP's Debt Services.
