Job summary

IBM Consulting FutureNow seeks experienced Java Engineers to design, build, test, and operate enterprise Java applications across critical national security programmes. You’ll work in modern Java environments, contribute to microservice architectures, and collaborate with cross‑functional delivery teams to deliver robust software solutions.

The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, strong debugging skills, and mentoring junior engineers within a hybrid UK delivery model.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain Java-based applications and services.
• Build backend services and REST APIs using Java and frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot.
• Contribute to microservice and distributed application architectures.
• Develop clean, maintainable and appropriately tested code.
• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to engineering decisions.
• Diagnose and resolve complex software and production issues.
• Develop and maintain automated unit, integration and component tests.
• Work with CI/CD pipelines and modern software deployment practices.
• Collaborate with Architects, DevOps Engineers, Test Engineers and other Software Engineers throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Support applications through development, testing and production environments.
• Contribute to code reviews, engineering standards and continuous improvement.
• Engage with client stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
• Support and mentor less experienced engineers where appropriate.
