JAVA Engineer

Join a digital first bank that’s powered by people.

Our technology team builds innovative digital solutions rapidly and at scale to deliver the next generation of banking services for our customers around the world.

We have an entrepreneurial mindset. Our people work together, creating an agile, collaborative, and innovative culture. You’ll learn and expand your skills, plus we will support you every step of the way as you grow your career.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

As a Java Engineer in the Path-To-Live team, you’ll be embedded within a team responsible for a product and related services end to end. You will design, implement, integrate, and test pipeline capabilities, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our services evolve to meet their needs. You will be at the forefront of adopting new technologies and transforming processes to support an agile, value-driven way of working.

In this role, you will:

  • Work alongside a global team of engineers building and operating Java and cloud-native AWS solutions.
  • Collaborate with Product and Delivery teams to scope, prioritize, and deploy new products and features for internal engineering consumers.
  • Troubleshoot and support operational teams to ensure IT controls are satisfied and systems can be maintained and recovered efficiently.
  • Build and support DevOps practices, contributing to on-call rotas to ensure adequate out-of-hours coverage.
  • Liaise with HSBC service and problem management stakeholders to maintain key technology controls (e.g., patching, disaster recovery) and ensure system compliance with standards.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Extensive experience building Java applications, including test-driven development, architecture, and design patterns.
  • In-depth knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Groovy.
  • Understanding of ITIL and agile concepts, with experience operating services in compliance with IT controls.
  • Strong understanding of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Significant experience with key AWS cloud services within a large enterprise environment.

This role is based in Sheffield.
