This role is with a financial services client based in Glasgow. In this role, you will serve as a member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted, market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for implementing critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions to support the firm’s business objectives.
Job responsibilities
- Execute software solutions, design, develop, and troubleshoot technical issues, thinking beyond routine approaches to build solutions or resolve problems.
- Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that operate synchronously with relevant systems.
- Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications, ensuring design constraints are met during software development.
- Gather, analyze, synthesize, and develop visualizations and reports from large, diverse data sets to improve software applications and systems continuously.
- Proactively identify hidden problems and patterns in data, using insights to enhance coding hygiene and system architecture.
- Contribute to software engineering communities of practice and participate in events exploring new and emerging technologies.
- Promote a team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
What you'll need to succeed
The following skills and experience are essential:
- Formal training or certification in system design concepts and practical experience applying them.
- Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods.
- Comprehensive understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Solid knowledge of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
- Proficiency in software applications and technical processes within disciplines like cloud computing, AI, machine learning, mobile development, etc.
- UI Technologies: React or Angular, TypeScript, CSS, Micro Frontend Development, JavaScript.
- Backend Technologies: Java / Spring, Kafka, NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra).
The following skills and experience are desirable:
- Exposure to cloud technologies.
- Experience in microservices architecture and design.
- Ability to learn new skills and stay updated with industry innovations to automate manual tasks.
- Experience with unit testing, mocking, performance testing (JUnit, Mockito, Blazemeter).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, etc.
