As a Java Backend Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Liquidity Risk Technology Team, you serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities

• Execute software solutions, design, develop, and troubleshoot with the ability to think beyond routine approaches to build solutions or analyze technical problems.
• Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems.
• Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications, ensuring design constraints are met in software development.
• Gather, analyze, synthesize, and develop visualizations and reports from large, diverse data sets to improve software applications and systems.
• Identify hidden problems and patterns in data to drive improvements in coding hygiene and system architecture.
• Contribute to software engineering communities and explore emerging technologies.
• Promote a team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with applied experience.
• Practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Proficiency in coding languages such as Java, Spark.
• Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using modern programming and database querying languages.
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Knowledge of agile methodologies like CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
• Knowledge of software applications and technical processes in disciplines such as cloud, AI, machine learning, or mobile development.
• Ability to solve data-oriented problems using technologies like SQL, Relational DB, Spark, NoSQL, optimizing for performance.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Experience with Spark performance tuning on large datasets.
• Experience deploying production changes in complex software using Scala and Spark.
