Job Summary

Performs custodial tasks in designated county buildings and institutional facilities on a part-time basis. Tasks involve considerable moving and lifting of heavy objects or materials, climbing and reaching, and possibly working outside in the maintenance of building surroundings. Responsibilities include:

  1. Scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors using electrically powered equipment.
  2. Sweeping and hand mopping corridors.
  3. Washing walls and windows.
  4. Vacuuming rugs and dusting furniture.
  5. Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms.
  6. Loading, unloading, and moving furniture, material, and equipment.
  7. Carrying out refuse, shoveling snow, sweeping parking lots, and performing other manual tasks related to maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  8. Arranging chairs, platforms, and other equipment for various assemblies, conferences, and meetings.
  9. Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification is required.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position. Candidates selected for safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
  • Willingness to work at multiple facilities within the County.
  • Ability to use brooms, mops, and other hand cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including but not limited to moving and lifting furniture, equipment, and refuse.
  • Ability to function independently in meeting high standards of cleanliness in an assigned building area.
  • Proficiency in the care of assigned tools and materials, economical use of all soaps, powders, waxes, and other custodial supplies.
  • Ability to follow oral/written instructions and learn simple repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to exercise safety and care in cleaning to avoid injuries, breakage, or destruction of property.
  • This position requires various types of physical exertion including but not limited to walking, standing for considerable lengths of time, lifting, pulling, pushing, squatting, and moving objects of moderate to heavy weight.
Physical Requirements

Very Heavy work involves exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
