Our Opportunity

Our Engineering function are currently looking for an Integration Verification, Validation and Qualification Manager (IVVQM). This role will combine project delivery responsibilities and functional management across the UK portfolio.

As IVVQM for projects, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of system integration and system testing for solutions that meet the needs of our clients and users within the rail domain. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, develop integration and testing tools and approaches, to implement solutions and ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our products and solutions. You will set the vision for the team and be responsible for delivering IVVQ work packages to key project milestones.

In addition, as functional lead for IVVQ you will be responsible for appropriate and timely resource allocation across the UK portfolio and for managing and guiding your team members, ensuring that they are developed appropriately. You will be responsible for ensuring that your functional team has the relevant skills and capabilities to undertake their operational roles.

This is a hybrid role working a minimum of two days per week from one of our Hitachi Rail SRS or customer sites (London or Manchester).

Key Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the project.
  • Understand and lead the project delivery processes, methodologies, and use the defined tools as set out in the Management System and the project specific IVVQ Management Plans and Engineering Management Plans.
  • Co-ordinate and direct testing activities of a team of IVVQ engineers across the UK.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies, tools, and trends in IVVQ development.
  • Plan, develop, document, and coordinate IVVQ activities from hardware and software Integration to site acceptance.
  • Create, implement and optimize IVVQ strategies for current delivery and future projects.
  • Provide advanced technical leadership for fault investigation/rectification and test activities as required.
  • Develop new techniques and tools to support more efficient integration, investigation and test activities as required.
  • Work with the test team and design teams to develop novel approaches to identify and resolve problems.
  • Ensure all resources (equipment, tools and personnel) are available on the planned dates across multiple projects.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with the customer and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead estimate activities for any variation impacting IVVQ activities on projects and act as reviewer/approver for estimates where appropriate
  • Create and maintain a culture around safety, collaboration and efficiency
  • Work closely with and report into Engineering Delivery Managers for project works across the portfolio, and the Head of Systems Engineering for functional duties.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the IVVQ team, promoting efficiency and innovation
  • Act as a mentor and/or instructor to all members of the IVVQ team(s).
  • Support the development of employees in your functional team, set development goals and support development plans.
  • Manage the talent process, performance, recruitment and utilisation related to your functional team.
Technical Skills and Experience
  • Technical experience covering most aspects of the project and product lifecycle, with particular focus on integration, validation and verification.
  • Proven experience in testing and integrating complex systems applications.
  • Solid understanding of systems architecture and design patterns.
  • Experience working in an Engineering environment with ability to define engineering and IVVQ delivery methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to develop and lead high performing teams.
  • Ability to define, develop and implement IVVQ tools and experience of SW tools and deployments.
  • A proven record of on-budget, on-time delivery, whilst maximising margin and delighting the customer
  • A proven record of managing effective teams, tackling under performance, recognising success and developing talent
  • Technical/project experience in critical control systems engineering and/or safety critical systems in urban and/or mainline signalling and communications projects.

  • Ability to build and sustain strong working relationships at all levels

  • Demonstrable experience in achieving buy-in from strong technical and non-technical stakeholders
