The salary for this role is£34,568 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance).Onsite workingis expected for 5days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

This role is based at the following site;Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees tocomplete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The role is part of the IT Support team within the Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions Unit at UKAEA, which manages centrally provided IT services and infrastructure across UKAEA sites.

The IT Support Specialist will provide 1st line (Service Desk) and 2nd/3rd line (IT Support) services for business and operational systems, covering:

  • Windows OS, with some Mac and Linux support
  • Active Directory, network storage, networking, printing, and telecoms
  • Support for remote & hybrid working (VPN, NoMachine, SecurID, MFA)
  • Hardware support (desktops, laptops, peripherals)

Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with users across all levels of technical ability. The role also includes handling high volumes of hardware requests (laptops, desktops, accessories), and collaborating with other IT teams (Networks, Servers, Security) to resolve incidents and requests.

Adherence to ITIL/ITSM practices is expected to maintain high-quality service deliver

Qualifications

Essential:

  • A-level or equivalent (e.g., Apprenticeship, BTEC, HNC) in an IT or science-related subject, with a minimum of two years in an IT Support environment.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10/11, PC imaging, application deployment, and office software (MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel) including licensing.

  • Understanding of IT security practices such as malware protection, password management, phishing prevention, and software updates.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills; experienced in supporting both technical and non-technical users, including remote technologies like VPN, SecurID, and MFA.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, collaboratively in a team, and independently with strong self-motivation.

Desirable:

  • Analytical approach to troubleshooting with working knowledge of macOS and Linux operating systems.

  • Experience in liaising with third-party suppliers to resolve technical issues and support services.

  • Proficient in remote working tools (Forticlient, NoMachine, SecurID, MFA) and supporting meeting room technologies and software such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
