Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic and growing education-focused IT Managed Service Provider (MSP). The role is based full-time at an outstanding co-educational private school for both day and boarding pupils (boys and girls) in Reading. The school prides itself on delivering a leading values-driven education in a family-feel environment with excellent results. There are currently over 550 pupils aged 11 to 18 at the school.

Role Profile
  • Job title: IT Support Engineer
  • Reports to: IT Manager
  • Hours: Monday to Friday either 08:00-16:30 or 09:00-17:30 (to be agreed upon appointment)
  • Salary: Up to £28,000 per annum
  • Holidays: 30 days plus Bank Holidays

What You'll Be Doing Day-to-Day

As part of the company's managed services team, you will be working at the school to deliver first-class IT support services to staff and pupils. You will undertake a broad range of IT support tasks, primarily end user support, but also including systems maintenance of servers, network and Wi-Fi, and cloud-hosted systems. You will be a key member of the onsite IT team, also working closely with the company's Service Manager and relevant school staff.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day support of the school's ICT resources ensuring that there is adequate provision to meet the needs of staff and students.
  • Assist the IT Manager and Senior IT Engineer with business-as-usual projects and take a role in resolving infrastructure-related issues.
  • Deploy end user hardware (desktops, laptops, tablets, cabling, printers, telephones, AV equipment, peripherals) as well as deployment and management of end user software.
  • Support school events and activities, ensuring that IT and AV are available for use when required.

IT Support Engineer – Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • 1+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Google applications
  • Good knowledge of desktop operating systems (Windows, Mac OSX)
  • Microsoft systems administration experience (Windows Server, 365, Azure)
  • Google G Suite for Education experience
  • Apple product experience (hardware, macOS, iOS)
  • Basic networking skills (DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, VLAN, switching, wireless)

Desirable:

  • Relevant IT certifications
  • Educational MIS systems experience (SIMS, Schoolbase, iSAMS, etc.)
  • Mobile Device Management (Apple JAMF, Chromebook G-Suite)
  • Experience supporting services in the cloud (SaaS)
  • Previous experience working in a school
  • Web & email security in relation to child safeguarding
