The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is a key agency of the UK government, dedicated to ensuring maritime safety, protecting the marine environment, and coordinating search and rescue operations through HM Coastguard.

You will sit within the MCA’s IT Service Management function, supporting the technologies and platforms that underpin life-saving operations, including emergency “Blue Light” systems and coastal communications infrastructure. Working closely with IT Delivery, Estates, and cross-functional teams across the UK (and USA), the department ensures seamless service delivery, supplier performance, and operational excellence. From data centres to remote coastal towers, this team is the glue that keeps MCA’s digital backbone running—supporting everything from incident response to Wi-Fi infrastructure. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to national safety while gaining hands-on experience in service management across a varied and mission-critical tech landscape.

Reporting to Senior Service Managers, this role ensures the smooth delivery of IT services by managing systems, service levels, and stakeholder relationships. The department ensures Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) are met across internal and external teams. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, coordinating releases, maintaining service integrity, and liaising across IT functions. The role also ensures accurate control of service assets and configuration items, supporting reliable and efficient IT performance throughout the organisation.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Delivering a reliable IT services across MCA platforms
  • Managing supplier contracts and performance
  • Leading service reviews and resolving disputes
  • Driving continuous service improvement
  • Coordinating incident, problem, and change processes
  • Tracking and report service performance metrics
  • Supporting budget planning and cost control
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships and share timely service insights
