IT Project Manager - 12 months FTC in Hatfield

About The Role

The IT Project Manager oversees the delivery of technical projects across infrastructure and applications within Ocado Group’s global IT service portfolio. The initial focus is a People Costs Programme, pending commencement.

  • Must have proven experience managing large-scale projects involving Workday (or equivalent HCM systems) and financial software.
  • Experience configuring and optimizing compensation, absence policies, and one-time payments in enterprise HCM systems is essential.
  • Strong understanding of global payroll processes, compensation structures, and localized pay elements is required.
  • Previous collaboration with HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT teams to ensure cross-functional alignment is necessary.
  • Experience engaging and managing stakeholders at a global level is crucial.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple IT projects through full lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including scope, business case, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate resources and manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Define project scope, develop plans, and analyze requirements.
  • Identify risks and issues, managing dependencies to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Track progress, own budgets, and oversee change management activities.
  • Define acceptance criteria and oversee testing.
  • Work with IT teams to ensure smooth change integration into business operations.
  • Report on project KPIs and seek process improvements.
  • Lead a year-long People Costs project involving IT and finance teams globally.

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years in IT project management.
  • Experience with Workday implementations, migrations, or enhancements related to compensation and absence.
  • Management of multi-country HR/payroll projects with complex structures.
  • Knowledge of self-service HR tools and change management.
  • Understanding of global HR/payroll regulations and compliance.
  • Experience leading large enterprise HR or Finance initiatives.
  • Proven stakeholder management across regions and effective communication with executive committees.
  • Experience managing project interdependencies and full lifecycle projects.

Skills

  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project planning, Waterfall, and Agile methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Facilitation skills for workshops with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and risk analysis skills.
  • Formal project management qualification (Prince2, PMP, or similar).
  • Hands-on Workday or similar HCM system management experience.
  • Knowledge of international payroll structures and compliance.
  • Ability to manage complex HRIS/payroll transformation projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Workday implementation projects.
  • Management of payroll modification programs.
  • Extensive experience with payroll inputs, vendors, and finance system outputs.
