Birmingham Hippodrome is seeking an IT Manager to lead day-to-day technical operations within the Systems & Technology team. The role focuses on maintaining secure, reliable infrastructure, identity and endpoint management, and driving modernisation across Microsoft 365 and security.
Reporting to the Head of Systems & Technology, you will manage two IT Engineers, collaborate with stakeholders, and contribute to digital transformation and service delivery across a busy cultural venue.
With a mission to enrich the cultural life of our region, Birmingham Hippodrome is one of the most popular theatre complexes in the UK. Varied productions in our 1,850-seat auditorium (dating from 1899), and in our 200-seat Patrick Studio ensure we play a key role in the region’s world-class cultural scene. With c.400 live performances annually in our main house, we present nothing but the best in touring musical theatre, ballet, dance, opera, pantomime, drama, and comedy. Our Patrick Studio welcomes a range of smaller-scale productions and is an important base for dance and for the development of new artistic work.
Fun fact: Hamilton was one of our largest ever onsale days, with an online queue peaking at 5,500 people, allowing 75 people into the website every minute.
This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days onsite per week
Evening and weekend work will occasionally be required during key projects
Patching happens every 2nd Sunday, and these shifts are shared among the team on a rota basis

As IT Manager, you will play a leading role in shaping and supporting Birmingham Hippodrome’s technology environment during a period of significant change and modernisation. Working within the Systems & Technology team, you will be responsible for maintaining secure, reliable and high-performing infrastructure and end-user services, while helping to drive improvements across identity and device management, networking, Microsoft 365, cybersecurity, operational support, and service delivery.
Reporting to the Head of Systems & Technology, you will lead day-to-day technical operations and line manage our two IT Engineers. You will work closely with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders to deliver resilient, well-governed and user-focused technology services. The role offers the chance to contribute to digital transformation, strengthen security and compliance, introduce modern tools and ways of working, and ensure technology continues to enable collaboration, innovation and excellent service across the organisation.

You’ll need substantial experience in IT infrastructure, administering identity and endpoint management, managing Microsoft 365 services, and taking responsibility for maintaining secure production environments. You’ll have strong experience of working with IT service desks including ticket triage, user support and continuous service improvement. Previous line management experience would be desirable - and a collaborative, supportive, people-focused, and positive approach is a must-have.
