JOB SPECIFICATION

Reports to: Head of Technology

Contract: Permanent

Based: Glasgow HQ, with occasional travel to regional offices (St Alban’s and Warrington)

Salary: Up to £41,000 per annum

Flexible working: Hybrid working

About The Role

We are looking for an IT Infrastructure Engineer to support the ambitious growth plans of the business. The Technology Department is at the very start of an extremely exciting journey, which makes this role a fantastic opportunity for someone who is ambitious and really wants to make an impact and demonstrate their skills in this field.

Our IT Infrastructure Engineer must have proven experience of administering, designing, and securing key network infrastructure, and be proactive and diligent in pushing forward business projects.

To succeed in this role, it is essential that the post holder has extensive knowledge of Microsoft cloud computing, network protocols, routing, switches, and network security. Additionally, the post holder must have a proactive and risk-considerate attitude and ensure we’re always operating at our best so we can serve our customers without fail.

Key Responsibilities

As IT Infrastructure Engineer you will be accountable for supporting Technology strategy as such, we see the key responsibilities of the role as being:

  • Ensuring robust and efficient LANs, WANs, VPNs, and wireless systems.
  • Deploying and managing web applications for end users.
  • Implementing and sustaining server and storage infrastructure, virtual environments, and cloud solutions.
  • Assisting end-users and IT colleagues with network and system enquiries.
  • Streamlining network and system operations through scripting.
  • Overseeing and refine monitoring software for servers and critical applications.
  • Authoring and maintaining accurate and comprehensive documentation on the setup of our estate.
  • Embracing continuous improvement and look for opportunities to improve and prepare our infrastructure for growth.
  • Maintaining and reporting on Disaster Readiness.
  • Working within IT SLAs and KPIs and ensuring that breaches of these are minimised.
  • Delivering assigned projects in line with agreed deadlines.
  • Adhering to Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration processes. Responding to incidents within agreed SLAs.
  • Acting as a first line support to troubleshoot issues to do with IT infrastructure.
  • Acting as the primary contact in relation to any IT infrastructure related issues.

Requirements

  • Multiple years of experience as an IT Infrastructure Engineer.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft computing, Exchange, Intune, and Entra.
  • Understanding of network protocols, routing, switches, and network security.
  • Proficiency working with and managing UniFi infrastructure.
  • Experience working with hybrid on-prem/cloud estates.
  • Ability to write PowerShell scripts for automation. Python server automation is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of server hardware, architecture, and hyperconverged infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
  • Understanding of business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Proving experience owning IT Infrastructure for a business end-to-end.
  • ITIL certification (nice to have).
  • Experience with Cloud Infrastructure, ideally Azure (nice to have).
  • Cybersecurity exposure (nice to have).
