New Opportunity: IT Applications Engineer (Dinorwig Power Station)

First Hydro Company operate two pumped-storage hydroelectric facilities in North Wales, able to provide rapid-response power to the National Grid during times of system stress. As part of the ENGIE group, we are undergoing significant plant refurbishment to enable another 40 years of operation. This represents a fantastic growth opportunity for all involved.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced IT Application Engineer to play a crucial role in the operations and ongoing development of our Digital and Business applications. Primarily, to be responsible for the software development of key operational real time applications and to support the wider Business application suite and utilisation thereof.

You will be based at the Dinorwig Power Station in the heart of Snowdonia, you will work closely with our engineering, production, and business departments to ensure the power stations are always ready. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.

*You must be eligible to work in the UK and have been a resident in the UK for the last 5 years. This role will be subject to National Security Vetting.*

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure operation and ongoing code development of a suite of in-house, on premise applications used for the control of plant generation.
  • Provide support for Business applications performing Finance, Procurement and Maintenance Management functions. Liaise with internal Group and external suppliers for further support and manage any required developments.
  • Enhance the Digitalisation of the business through data and process analysis.
  • Adopt excellent Cyber Security practices in every aspect of your work and participate actively in the secure and resilient operation of the business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline.
  • Significant experience in software development with appropriate certifications.
  • Proven expertise in designing, implementing and supporting complex IT solutions.

  • Strong software development skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of complex application technologies and development methods.
  • Logical, analytical, and creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to analyse business process and data and apply to help improve productivity.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to quality, reliability and safety.
  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to all levels of staff.[SD4] [SG5]
  • Business acumen and commercial awareness.

Experience

  • 5+ years experience in software development. Using Microsoft .NET technologies is desirable.
  • Familiarity with use, administration and reporting from Relational Databases, especially SQL Server.
  • Support of ERP systems and similar Business Applications.
  • Proven track record in managing and delivering projects.
