Job summary

INEOS Grangemouth seeks an IT Database Administrator with Oracle/SQL to join the Applications Team. You will manage and optimise Oracle and MS SQL databases, ensuring availability, security and performance across the estate.

You will collaborate with Cyber Security, Infrastructure and Service Desk, deploy upgrades, implement backups, DR strategies, and contribute to continuous improvement within an ITIL framework.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in design, implementation, administration and support of Oracle and MS SQL Server databases.
  • Backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies with data integrity.
  • Strong SQL/PLSQL/T-SQL scripting with stored procedures and other objects.
  • Experience monitoring, troubleshooting and tuning database performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including security and service desks, to deliver outcomes.
  • Knowledge of SDLC, deployment, patching, upgrades and release management.
  • Familiarity with ITIL service management and cloud/hybrid databases.

ABOUT OUR OPPORTUNITY

Key accountabilities

Primarily to provide database administration, support & development across the Oracle and MS SQL database estate. Ensuring availability, performance, integrity and security of the databases are maintained in line with business requirements. Proactively plan and perform software patching and upgrading in line with best practice. Creating and maintaining database standards and policies to align with IT Group standards. As a key member of the apps support team assist in troubleshooting of any application issues and unplanned outages demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills to support applications.

ABOUT YOU
Required:
  • Proven experience in the design, implementation, administration and support of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Strong knowledge of database backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies, with practical experience restoring database instances and ensuring data integrity.
  • Demonstrable experience developing and maintaining SQL, PL/SQL and T-SQL scripts, including stored procedures, triggers, packages and other database objects.
  • Extensive experience monitoring, troubleshooting and optimising database performance, including identifying root causes, implementing solutions and recommending performance tuning opportunities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Cyber Security, Infrastructure, ERP Systems and Service Desk teams, to resolve operational issues and deliver project outcomes.
  • Experience working with third-party suppliers and vendors to manage technical issues, support activities and project deliverables.
  • Knowledge of capacity planning and performance monitoring, including the collection and analysis of CPU, memory and storage utilisation metrics to forecast future resource requirements.
  • Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering and design through to deployment, support and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in deployment and environment management, including planning and delivering database upgrades, patching schedules and release management activities.
  • Experience contributing to technical architecture design, working with stakeholders, vendors and internal IT teams to develop robust and scalable solutions.
  • Strong documentation skills, with experience producing and maintaining technical architecture, system design and operational support documentation.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring technical standards, procedures and documentation remain current, accurate and aligned with business requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of database automation, monitoring and reporting tools.
  • Experience working within ITIL-based service management environments.
  • Exposure to cloud‑hosted database platforms and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and technologies to broaden understanding and ability to support the wider application portfolio.
