The Emergency Services Network (ESN) is a strategic priority for BT, providing mission-critical communications for Britain’s Emergency Services. ESN will replace the Airwave network, building upon EE’s 4G network to deliver essential voice, data, and critical communication services to 300,000 frontline emergency service members.

The IP Transport Specialist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the IP Transport network for BT’s mobile services, supporting both commercial and Emergency Services customers. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of the Mobile Labs network supporting critical communications.

The successful candidate will be cleared to BPSS (or equivalent) at minimum, with potential requirement for National Security Vetting (e.g., CTC, SC, or NPPV).

What you’ll be doing

• Configure and deploy network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls to support ESN's infrastructure
• Diagnose and resolve network issues, including connectivity, performance, and security incidents
• Monitor and update network performance and security, managing patches and security protocols
• Provide operational support to ensure network stability and efficiency, including managing changes and routine maintenance
• Collaborate with design teams, system administrators, and stakeholders to ensure network reliability

What we would like to see on your CV

• Expertise in IP Transport, Nokia SR 7750 IPsec GW, Cisco Nexus 7000/9000 series
• Experience with IP MPLS, label distribution, traffic engineering, VPNs
• Knowledge of firewall technologies, Checkpoint, Fortinet
• Exposure to automation tools, Junos OS, F5 BIG-IP, Cisco ISE, mobile backhaul, Cisco ASR 1001
• Certifications such as NRS2, CCNA, CCNP preferred
