Intellectual Property (Non-Contentious) Associate 3-5 years' PQE | Leading National Firm | Birmingham | Hybrid Working

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Intellectual Property Associate to join a market-leading IP practice within a highly regarded national law firm. This role will focus on non-contentious IP work, advising across a broad range of complex, high-value transactions involving cutting-edge technologies, life sciences, retail, and energy sectors.

The Opportunity

Joining a top-tier team with an excellent reputation for both contentious and non-contentious IP work, you will focus on advisory and transactional matters involving IP as a core asset. This includes IP licensing, technology transfer, collaboration and R&D agreements, IP aspects of M&A and private equity deals, and broader strategic IP portfolio support.

You\'ll work closely with experts across corporate, commercial, and sector-specific teams, offering integrated and commercially focused advice to clients ranging from start-ups to global businesses. This is a high-impact role with strong client visibility and real progression potential.

What You\'ll Be Doing

As an IP Associate, your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on a broad range of non-contentious IP matters including licensing, franchising, R&D and collaboration agreements, and IP assignments.
  • Supporting complex M&A and private equity transactions involving key IP assets, particularly in the technology and pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Providing day-to-day IP advice to clients and internal teams across various industry sectors.
  • Assisting with IP audits, portfolio strategy, and risk management.
  • Developing client relationships and supporting wider business development efforts.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across departments including corporate, litigation, employment, and commercial teams.
  • Contributing to marketing initiatives and knowledge sharing within the team.
About You

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a qualified solicitor with 3-5 years\' post-qualification experience in non-contentious IP.
  • Have a strong grounding in licensing, IP due diligence, and drafting key IP provisions within corporate or commercial transactions.
  • Demonstrate excellent technical ability, strong attention to detail, and commercial awareness.
  • Show enthusiasm for IP law, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.
  • Be confident engaging directly with clients and managing elements of projects independently.
  • Be a team player keen to grow their expertise in a collaborative and supportive environment.
