Job description

We're looking for a talented Investment Manager to join our Social Investment Team at Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) on a short-term basis. The role would be ideal for someone who has taken a career break or is looking to return to an investment management role. Prior social investment experience will be critical as we're seeking someone who can hit the ground running, blend into our fun, hardworking team, and work through the pipeline of activity we are building up.

What you'll do

At CAF, every one of us contributes to our impact, and as our Investment Manager, you will play an integral part in our work. You'll work as part of the Social Investment team lending philanthropic capital to social purpose organisations—building a more resilient social enterprise sector and achieving greater impact outcomes. Your responsibilities include developing a pipeline of opportunities, critically analysing potential investments through social and financial lenses, and presenting written recommendations to our impact committee.

  • Work as part of the team building the pipeline, assessing new social investment opportunities.
  • Undertake due diligence and provide written recommendations to our impact committee.
  • Ensure social impact and financial risk are balanced appropriately across new and existing clients.
  • Manage the post-deal approval process, liaising with internal teams to ensure successful deployment of funds.
  • Actively monitor a portion of the social investment portfolio, preparing financial forecasts and variations as needed.
Do you want to lend with purpose?

With CAF's social investment team, you'll have the ability to critically appraise social impact models and direct repayable capital towards organisations creating social good. This role is suitable if you have experience working in a financial, business, or charity environment, or possess relevant transferable skills and are eager to make a societal difference.

We are looking for:
  • Strong financial skills and highly numerate.
  • A proven track record in lending, assessing financial data, or grant-making.
  • A good understanding of impact-focused social investment.
  • A passion for supporting social enterprises, charities, and community groups of all sizes, with the ability to understand and empathise with various social needs and charitable activities.
  • The ability to manage multiple activities effectively.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to thrive in a busy, collaborative environment, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility.
  • Strong relationship development skills and experience working with diverse stakeholders.
  • The ability to quickly understand internal processes to contribute effectively from the start.

At Charities Aid Foundation, we accelerate social progress by connecting donors, charities, and communities. We safeguard and deliver vital donations, offer expert advisory services and financial products, and provide tailored charity banking through our award-winning CAF Bank. Our purpose is to foster a better landscape for giving and a sustainable future for all.

We are committed to attracting, retaining, and developing top talent at all levels, and providing a workplace where every voice matters.

  • Six weeks holiday plus bank holidays (pro-rated).
  • Pension scheme with enhanced employer contributions.
  • Social impact benefit schemes.
