Increasing Manulife’s exposure to the European fixed income markets is an important part of the ongoing strategy.

Role and Accountability: Reporting to the Head of European Corporate Finance and working closely with senior members of the team, the successful candidate will function as a fixed income investment professional, assisting in the screening and identification of new investment opportunities and working towards the preparation and presentation of these opportunities and their merits to the broader investment team across geographies. They will be responsible for the ongoing and periodic review of individual investments in the portfolio.

The IA is expected to become knowledgeable about the various markets in Europe, as well as North America and Asia Pacific, across all the fixed income asset classes where Manulife is active. Public transactions will require daily interaction with wide-ranging UK and European public bond bookrunners as well as multiple internal stakeholders. The IA will assist in researching and developing investment strategies and parameters and regularly present targeted companies with financing needs commensurate with Manulife’s cash flow, credit quality and duration needs. That will require proactivity and the ability to think creatively. Gaining an understanding of various Manulife entities' tax and regulatory considerations and implementation of those considerations is also important.

The IA will work closely with sector analysts in the Boston, Toronto and Asia offices on credit and transaction analysis. The IA is expected to work towards gaining responsibilities for European sectors and credits. The IA will be part of the team that advises portfolio management in Boston, Toronto and Asia on credit and transactions on an ongoing basis. Communication skills (both verbal and written) and collaboration are very important as there will be constant communication with analysts, PMs, tax and legal from various geographies.
