Position Title: Investment Analyst, Developed Markets Equity Team - Information Technology

Overall Purpose of the Role

To take the lead on European/US Technology coverage alongside broader sector responsibilities.

Investment Analysis

Conduct investment analysis in line with Barings Equities investment process and propose potential investment ideas to Portfolio Managers and Heads of SITs.

Responsibilities:
Research
  1. Investment Analysts and Investment Managers to produce the following documents for each company under their coverage: Company Overview sheet, Company Scorecard, ESG Considerations sheet, Earnings Model, and notes from that last five meetings with company Management, and to contribute to debates.
  2. Conduct research to Barings’ standard.
  3. Update company valuations and roll out price targets in a timely manner via Aspen.
  4. Disseminate information in a timely manner after company meetings and results.
  5. Convey conviction when communicating ideas.
Investment Performance
  1. Deliver and/or contribute to the delivery of superior risk-adjusted returns of all applicable portfolios over 12 and 36 months.
  2. Contribute to the performance of the Global, International Large and International Small Cap strategies.
Adherence to the Investment Process
  1. Comply and contribute to the investment philosophy, research approach and portfolio construction.
  2. Demonstrate conviction in portfolios and ideas.
Active Ownership
  1. Engagement: Timely and effective engagement with companies on material issues. Timely update of the centralised Issuer Engagement system.
  2. Voting: Timely and effective voting on company resolutions.
Internal and External Engagement and Reporting
  1. Prepare and conduct high quality presentations of their investment ideas. Edit and complete comments on relevant market events when they materially affect the companies.
  2. Proactively engage with the Sales and Marketing teams.
  3. Understand clients’ issues.
  4. Maintain a full understanding of Barings history/philosophy/investment policy and be able to communicate this effectively to existing clients.
Corporate Citizenship
  1. Maintain a full understanding of, and comply with, all regulatory, legal, corporate and client mandate requirements that impact upon their role at Barings. Ensure that any breaches are promptly and fully reported to their line manager, in line with agreed procedures.
  2. Promote the integration of the Equity team across the platform.
  3. Maintain personal availability to their own desk and dependent desks.
  4. Undertake ad-hoc responsibilities as and when directed or required.
  5. Ensure effective communication and teamwork within their team and the business as a whole.
  6. Act with integrity, discipline and commitment.
Experience/Skills Required
  1. Prior experience working as an Equities Investment Analyst within developed markets, aligned to Technology required.
  2. Strong analytical and research skills.
  3. Excellent communication skills.
