About the role

In your role as Investment Advice Associate you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.

This role will provide a great opportunity tofocus on the production of investment advice to the scheme’s stakeholders (primarily by drafting and reviewing PowerPoint and Word documents)

The successful applicant will help to ensure that the advice provided to USS (and USSIM) is clear, robust and in the best financial interests of the scheme and its members.

What you will be doing

As a trusted part of the ISA – Investment Strategy & Advice you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the production and review of investment advice to the relevant boards (e.g., the USSIM Executive Committee, USS Investment Committee, USS Trustee Board or USSIM Board).
  • Ensuring the advice being produced by the team is of the highest quality, clear, unambiguous, written in plain English and in the best financial interests of the scheme and its members.
  • Maintaining legal and governance related documentation in relation to the scheme.
  • Understanding pension investment and risk management challenges faced by the scheme and contributing towards developing actionable solutions.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Experience in institutional investment (e.g., pensions or insurance)
  • Interest in investment, pensions (Defined Benefit and/or Defined Contribution) and capital markets
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Good analytical skills, with the ability to extract insights from technical documents and/or quantitative analysis and translate into simple advice
  • Ability to see the bigger picture
  • Attention to detail, particularly when reviewing documents and analysis
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and willing to challenge
  • Strong project management skills, with a flexible approach
  • Proficient at Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Keen to stay up to date with developments and legislation affecting the UK pensions industry
  • Strong compliance culture and high personal ethical standards
