Job description

The post holder will work within the interventional radiology team, based in Radiology, UHW Cardiff. With comprehensive training, they will be accountable for providing specialist nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures. This includes pre-assessment, assisting during interventions, circulating as a nurse, administering conscious sedation (Band 6 only), and recovery for both planned and emergency procedures.

Working hours are 37.5 hours over 4 days from 0800 to 1800, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. The post requires participation in a 24-hour on-call service, essential for the UHB as a major trauma centre. Radiation protection regulations (IR(ME)R 2017) govern the role, requiring the wearing of radiation protection clothing, sometimes for extended periods.

An informal visit is highly recommended to familiarize yourself with the clothing and other aspects of this unique role. Applicants are invited to apply in Welsh; applications in Welsh will not be treated less favorably.

The salary scale has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2025/2026, effective from August 2025 with backdated arrears to April 1, 2025, where applicable.
