Join to apply for the Intervention Facilitator (Fixed Term) role at MRC Epidemiology Unit
The MRC Epidemiology Unit is seeking to appoint an Intervention Facilitator who will support the delivery of the SWiM (Supporting Weight Management) national randomised trial. SWiM is a new digital intervention to help people who have lost weight through a weight management programme to maintain their weight over the long term.
SWiM is a 4-month, guided self-help intervention, which will be accessed via a web platform, with an optional paper-based workbook copy. Participants will be guided through the programme by a SWiM coach, through periodic telephone contact at specific stages of the intervention. The SWiM intervention is being tested in a randomised controlled trial running from June 2025 and is expected to complete intervention delivery within 24 months. The post-holder will fill the role of the SWiM coach, delivering structured telephone support to participants using written protocols. They will also support the research team with wider administrative tasks to support delivery of the research study.
The SWiM research project is funded by an NIHR Programme Grant for Applied Research and led by Dr Amy Ahern. This project builds on a successful feasibility study of the SWiM intervention and aims to further refine and evaluate the equity and cost-effectiveness of SWiM. The post-holder will work with the Prevention of Diabetes and Related Disorders group within the MRC Epidemiology Unit, situated in the Institute of Metabolic Science on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The postholder will work under the direction of Dr Tamla Evans, a Research Associate and HCPC registered health psychologist leading the refinement and delivery of the SWiM intervention. The role will be remote/home-based. Some evening and weekend calling may be required.
The successful candidate will have experience and/or qualifications in areas such as psychology, nutrition, behaviour change or weight management. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate an empathic, non-judgemental approach and a strong understanding of weight stigma. Understanding of data confidentiality, good organisation and record keeping skills are essential. Experience of handling sensitive data is desirable.
This is a fixed-term position for 24 months. Please contact Dr Tamla Evans ( ) for informal enquiries.
