Job summary

The Works Stores Ltd. is seeking an Internal Controls Manager to lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the group’s internal controls framework.

You will work with Finance, Retail, IT and Operations to strengthen governance and support compliance with the UK Corporate Governance Code. This role coordinates the group’s internal audit activity, engages stakeholders, reviews audit outputs and drives remediation of control weaknesses, promoting a strong controls culture

Qualifications

• 3+ years in internal controls, risk, internal audit or governance.
• Experience designing and documenting controls across multiple processes.
• Experience working with internal and external auditors.
• Self-starter with strong organisation and proactive mindset.
• Able to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and maintenance of the group’s internal controls framework.
• Drive progress towards compliance with UK Corporate Governance Code Provision 29.
• Own and maintain RACM, ensuring coverage of key financial and operational risks.
• Identify control gaps and design/remediate mitigating controls.
• Coordinate annual and ad hoc internal audit plans with the outsourced provider.
• Review audit outputs and report progress to senior management and the Audit Committee.
• Support major ERP implementations with robust controls and governance.
• Promote a strong controls culture through coaching and training.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through process redesign and better system controls.
