Job summary

Plexus Design Centre in Bathgate, Scotland is seeking a detail-oriented Design Assurance Intern for a 12-week summer placement. You will gain a holistic view of the engineering lifecycle, supporting verification and validation across software, hardware and mechanical subsystems.

The role offers exposure to cross-disciplinary teams, risk assessments, and adherence to industry standards, with bespoke development plans and wellbeing benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have an engineering degree or be currently pursuing one in an engineering discipline.
• Keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a methodical approach to evaluating product performance.

Responsibilities

• Support verification and validation (V&V) testing activities across software, hardware, and mechanical subsystems.
• Assist in developing test plans, writing test scripts/cases, and analyzing test results on physical product prototypes.
• Work with multi-disciplinary design teams to review engineering documentation, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Investigate design defects, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend solutions alongside senior engineers.

The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Design Assurance Intern for a summer placement. Design Assurance touches every single aspect of product engineering-software, hardware, and mechanical. In this role, you'll gain a holistic overview of the entire engineering life cycle, learning how high-reliability products are tested, validated, and brought to market safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Support verification and validation (V&V) testing activities across software, hardware, and mechanical subsystems.

• Work with multi-disciplinary design teams to review engineering documentation, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

• Students pursuing a degree in any engineering discipline (Systems, Mechanical, Electronic, Biomedical, or Software Engineering).
• A keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a methodical approach to evaluating how products work (and how they might fail).
• An interest in the complete product engineering lifecycle, testing methodologies, and quality systems.
