Job description

Role: This is an exciting opportunity for a Building Services Mechanical Design Engineer with a leading International multi-disciplinary design consultancy in Central London. They are one of the UKs Top Employers for 5 years in a row according to Top Employer Institute. Their multi-disciplined team includes MEP (30 strong), Environmental Design & Sustainability, VT, and Architectural Design Lighting. They are involved in high profile and prestigious projects all over the world across a variety of sectors so the role may involve some travel.

Responsibilities:
  1. To fully understand Mechanical systems design process and undertake mechanical engineering design activities relating to assigned projects.
  2. To fulfil the Practice’s overall objective in leading to first class architecture and engineering on time and on budget.
  3. To have thorough knowledge of, and comply with, company procedures and standards.
Skills:
Required:
  1. Able to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilities.
  2. Legally able to work in the country in which the position is based.
  3. Have 2 to 4 years of previous mechanical engineering design experience.
  4. Foundational technical understanding of building mechanical engineering discipline and an appreciation of the role of the environmental engineer within the design team.
  5. Developing understanding of other engineering disciplines engaged in the design of the built environment.
  6. Appreciation of building design and architecture with creative and innovative mindset.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively within the integrated design process environment.
  8. To seek, and record evidence of, continuing professional development (CPD) in accordance with the requirements of the relevant professional Institution with objective of acquiring chartered status.
  9. Ability to use engineering software including experience of using Autodesk Revit and advanced knowledge of working with Microsoft Office software to be used for calculations, reports and presentations.
  10. Willing to learn new software tools such as Adobe Creative Suite to create reports and presentation material.
  11. Working knowledge of core technical guidance published by ASHRAE and CIBSE.
  12. Able to negotiate and communicate well in English, including both spoken and written language plus an ability to listen and to understand others.
  13. Ability to understand and formulate appropriate design decisions.
  14. A flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and a proven commitment to independent, lifelong learning.
  15. Demonstrate initiative in approach to own work, self-organised and motivated.
  16. Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  17. Good interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as part of an effective team.
  18. Able to build good relationships at all levels, internally and externally.

Desirable:
  1. International project experience.
  2. Aware of UK and International design standards.
  3. Ability to use some of the following software applications: IES or other dynamic simulation tools, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop etc), Bluebeam.
  4. Additional languages, in particular: European mainland languages, Arabic, Mandarin.
