Job summary

Hippo is seeking Intermediate Java Developers to join our team in Leeds. You will work in multi-disciplinary teams to build, support and maintain user-centred digital solutions that deliver real value for clients.

As an intermediate consultant, you will provide technical expertise in software engineering practices to internal teams and clients, producing quality software and helping design and optimize deployment pipelines.

Qualifications

• Experience with Java full stack delivering user-centred digital solutions.
• Proficient in AWS/Azure and DevOps practices.
• Familiar with Agile methods (Scrum/Kanban) and TDD.
• Experience designing and delivering RESTful services and pipelines.
• Knowledge of GOV/NHS projects is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Produce quality software for a wide range of public and private sector clients.
• Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver client solutions.
• Design and manage pipelines to resolve bottlenecks and deploy software.
• Present prototypes and progress to stakeholders clearly.
• Build strong relationships with team and stakeholders.

About The Role

Hippo is recruiting Intermediate Java Developers to join our Hippo Herd. Intermediate Java Developers work in multi-disciplinary teams that build, support & maintain User-Centred digital solutions that offer real value and work for everyone.

Hippo’s Intermediate Java Developers are experts in their field. You will act as an intermediate consultant providing technical expertise in software engineering practices both internally and to our clients.

Your role in nutshell:

• Produce quality software for a wide range of public and private sector clients
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to explore, design and deliver solutions to client problems
• Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines resolving issues and potential bottlenecks before they occur
• Help with presenting prototypes, solutions and progress to internal/external stakeholders in a clear concise manner
• Build great relationships with your team and stakeholders, identifying and ensuring that challenges are overcome
• Work within Hippo’s Engineering Herd to share best practices

About the Candidate

• Excellent verbal/written communication skills
• The full development lifecycle delivering user-centred digital solutions
• A full stack developer using core Java, CXF, Spring Boot, Jetty, Mustache, HTML, CSS & JavaScript
• JavaScript library and framework experience is preferable – Node, React, Angular
• Containerisation experience – Docker or Kubernetes or similar
• Restful API Services experience
• Working within agile methods and using techniques such as Scrum, Kanban and TDD
• Experience in designing and building native and web applications, across a variety of scales and platform environments
• Experience in public cloud (AWS or Azure) and DevOps
• Previous experience of using Infrastructure As Code and CI/CD tools would be highly
• Previous experience of working on GOV/NHS projects would be highly desirable

Hippo locations

We are headquartered in Leeds and have offices across the UK in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Bristol.

We're on the lookout for top talent nationwide but you need to be located within reasonable travelling distance from one of our offices which will be your contracted office location.

Given the dynamic nature of a consulting business, you may be required to work on-site at a Hippo office or at an in/out of town client location for a number of days per week (client dependent) and therefore candidates will need to be open/flexible to travel.

Plus, we offer a generous relocation support package of up to £8k (please ask for terms and conditions) to help make your move a smooth one.
