Job Title: Intermediate Estimator

The role is an office-based position responsible for carrying out take-offs, bills of quantities, cost plans, and tenders for our employer’s client base, which includes contractors, sub-contractors, developers, and private clients.

Projects will primarily involve residential new builds. The successful candidate will be highly organized, a team player, and eager to work in a small, local consultancy firm. With significant growth plans, this employer can offer excellent career progression opportunities.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Set up estimating files upon receipt of enquiries, both electronically and on paper, and update/add to files as needed.
• Maintain and organize archives.
• Engage with supply chain members, including suppliers and subcontractors, throughout the tender process from enquiry to contract award.
• Follow up on quotations from suppliers, subcontractors, and manufacturers.
• Perform estimating tasks independently.
• Support colleagues and the accounts team during peak periods.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Previous experience in estimating within a Professional Quantity Surveying (PQS) practice or main contracting firm; at least 3 years preferred. Additional experience is beneficial for senior roles.
• Experience in take-offs and pricing for residential new builds.
• Familiarity with SMM7, NRM3, and major measurement methods.
• Knowledge of major contract forms, especially JCT.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with estimating software and other take-off tools.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Good understanding of the building industry.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

• A degree or equivalent in a construction-related field is preferred.
