Job summary

BSV Recruitment Limited is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer in Winchester to join a growing building services consultancy. You will take greater responsibility in electrical design, coordinating with clients and design teams on a diverse project mix.

You will develop concepts through construction, perform calculations, produce drawings and technical reports, and support junior staff while progressing toward senior roles.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Building Services.
• Several years of electrical building services design experience.
• Knowledge of electrical systems in commercial buildings.
• Experience with design calculations and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with British Standards and Building Regulations; drafting software like AutoCAD/Revit.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical building services designs from concept to construction.
• Carry out load, cable sizing, voltage drop and fault current calculations.
• Develop lighting, small power, emergency lighting and distribution designs.
• Produce drawings, schematics, specifications and reports.
• Coordinate with mechanical, architectural and structural teams.
• Attend meetings and liaise with clients, contractors and consultants.
• Undertake site surveys and review contractor submissions.
• Support project delivery to programme, budget and standards.
• Provide guidance to junior engineers and graduates.

Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer Your Opportunity

We are looking for an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer looking to take the next step in their career within a collaborative building services consultancy. Youll work on a diverse range of projects, taking greater responsibility for electrical design while working closely with senior engineers, clients, architects and other members of the design team.

Youll have the opportunity to build on your existing technical experience, take ownership of elements of projects and develop the skills required to progress towards a senior engineering role.

What Youll Do

• Develop electrical building services designs from concept through to detailed design and construction.
• Undertake electrical calculations, including load assessments, cable sizing, voltage drop and fault current calculations.
• Develop lighting and small power designs, emergency lighting and electrical distribution systems.
• Produce electrical drawings, schematics, specifications and technical reports.
• Use relevant design software to develop and coordinate electrical systems.
• Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, architectural and structural disciplines.
• Attend project and design meetings and contribute to technical discussions.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, architects and other consultants.
• Undertake site surveys and inspections where required.
• Review technical information, drawings and contractor submissions.
• Support the delivery of projects to programme, budget and required technical standards.
• Provide guidance and support to junior engineers and graduates where appropriate.

What Youll Need

Were looking for an electrical engineer with solid building services experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility and develop their career within a consultancy environment.

Youll ideally have:

• A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline .
• Several years experience in electrical building services design.
• Good knowledge of electrical systems within commercial and/or other building environments.
• Experience with electrical design calculations and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry guidance .
• Experience using relevant design and drafting software, such as AutoCAD and/or Revit .
• Good understanding of multidisciplinary design coordination.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills and confidence working with clients and project teams.
• An interest in progressing towards professional registration with CIBSE, IET or an equivalent professional body .
