Job summary

West Dean College is seeking a proactive Subject Tutor to join the School of Design in London. You will deliver an engaging, contemporary design curriculum across on-site and online programmes, shaping student learning and industry-ready skills.

You will collaborate with the Programme Leader and academic team to deliver teaching, practical demonstrations, tutorials and assessments, while contributing to curriculum development and student recruitment. Part-time hours are discussed at appointment.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree in design or related subject.
• At least three years’ teaching experience in design or related subject.
• Professional experience in the design industry.
• Experience developing teaching and learning materials.
• Experience of student assessment and providing feedback.
• Experience supporting student recruitment and admissions in higher education.
• Knowledge of contemporary design practice and industry skills.
• Ability to plan and organise teaching and communicate with students and colleagues.
• Proficiency with digital design tools (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite).
• Flexible and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop and deliver innovative design curricula with the Programme Leader.
• Deliver high-quality teaching, demonstrations and assessments with clear feedback.
• Contribute to programme development and annual monitoring.
• Support student recruitment through open days and portfolio reviews.
• Provide academic tutorials and guidance for progression and wellbeing.
• Contribute to timetabling and delivery of programmes.
• Support Visiting Lecturers and collaborate with support colleagues.
• Keep teaching relevant to current industry practices.
