Job summary

The VAT Consultant role for Bromsgrove District Council and Redditch Borough Council is an interim appointment to provide specialist VAT advice across the public sector. The successful candidate will maximise VAT recovery, ensure HMRC compliance and advise on VAT implications of projects, contracts and property transactions.

Significant VAT advisory experience in local government or public sector is essential, with strong knowledge of VAT legislation, returns and reporting.

Qualifications

• Essential professional VAT qualifications and public sector experience.
• Proven ability to prepare VAT returns and perform partial exemption calculations.
• Strong knowledge of HMRC requirements and VAT compliance in local government.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist VAT advice to councils on capital projects, contracts and grants.
• Prepare and review VAT returns and ensure HMRC deadlines are met.
• Undertake and manage partial exemption calculations and VAT recovery.
• Liaise with HMRC and external VAT advisors on complex queries and audits.
• Maintain VAT policies and internal controls and provide training.
