The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for an Interim Supplier Sustainability Director on a 6-9 months fixed term contract basis to lead Avantor’s responsible sourcing strategy, including building relationships with key vendors, coordinating contract specifications with internal sourcing partners, and implementing policies and metrics to ensure that goals are realized. Work with sourcing leads, portfolio managers, customer teams, and senior management to promote innovations around sustainable procurement and lead supplier performance management across a broad range of issues (e.g. responsible labor practices, carbon footprint, waste reduction, circular economy, etc.).

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business/Economics or related field

• CIPS qualification (desired)

• Ability to influence and lead across peers, senior management, and external partners.

• Experience: 10+ years of relevant direct sourcing & supplier management experience

• Supplier Engagement: Engage with, support, and educate suppliers throughout the supply chain to meet program requirements

• Oversee KPIs: Manage program policies, contract language, and required reporting metrics

• Subject Matter Expertise: Deep understanding of supply chain transparency industry trends, best practices, and reporting platforms

• Strong business acumen

How You Will Thrive and Create Impact

As part of the Global Sustainability and Impact team, lead the responsible and sustainable sourcing strategy, specifically:

• Assess Avantor’s environmental and social impact across the value chain.

• Implement our new responsible sourcing strategy and review goals and targets to support the reduction of Avantor’s material sustainability impact areas across the value chain.

• Define the systems, technology, and supporting organizational structures required to deliver Avantor’s sustainability goals and targets.

• Define the key performance metrics (KPIs) and overarching performance management structure required to ensure delivery of Avantor’s supplier partner sustainability goals and targets, and contribute to the overall Avantor approach.

• Communicate new supplier partner sustainability approach, goals and targets to relevant Avantor stakeholders, notably sustainable procurement partners at customers and suppliers partners.

Sustainability approach and strategy execution across the supply chain and value chain impacted by the supply chain

• Carry out deep dive assessments of material areas of focus in the supply chain to identify reduction and offsetting levers and opportunities.

• Refine sustainability goals and targets and develop reduction/offsetting pathways for each area of focus; Prioritize those categories, strategies, and suppliers that will have the most material impact.

• Oversee program governance to deliver the company’s sustainability goals and targets, including the implementation of supplier code of conducts, contractual standards, transparency provisions, and supplier sustainability audits.

• Lead the development and implementation of standards, policies, reporting requirements, KPIs, and systems to deliver program targets.

• Work with the relevant business stakeholders and Sourcing managers to implement targeted engagement programs, including sourcing, supplier performance management, or cross-industry partnering.

• Coach and educate the Sourcing team on Sustainability topics and approaches, including how to incorporate into supplier assessment and selection processes.
