Job description

Job Opportunity: Interim SHE Manager

Our client, a successful chilled food manufacturing business in the UK, is seeking an experienced Interim SHE Manager for a 3-6 month contract, starting as soon as possible, ideally within 2-3 weeks for a handover. The role is inside IR35 and focuses heavily on environmental management, with 50% of responsibilities dedicated to environmental issues.

The site is permitted and features an effluent plant, ammonia plant, and water discharge into a local water course. Training in environmental aspects is available, but prior experience is preferred to ensure immediate contribution.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Maintaining environmental permit conditions
  2. Devising and implementing SHE strategies
  3. Ensuring compliance with all legal and internal SHE policies, standards, and procedures
  4. Developing and maintaining the Health, Safety, and Environment management system
  5. Designing, monitoring, and reporting SHE performance, analyzing trends, and developing action plans
  6. Coordinating SHE training and development for managers
  7. Promoting a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental practices
  8. Investigating, recording, and reporting incidents, with recommendations for improvement
  9. Monitoring risk assessments and providing advice to ensure compliance
  10. Coordinating actions with enforcement authorities and reporting to the Head of Operations
Ideal candidate qualifications:
  • Diploma-level NEBOSH H&S and Environmental qualification or equivalent
  • Significant experience as an Interim SHE Manager within the food industry
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and a team-oriented approach
