Job summary

Leahurst Equine Hospital, part of the University of Liverpool, is recruiting an Interim Resident in Equine Surgery on a fixed-term basis to maintain clinical team coverage during staff turnover. The role supports clinical activities, rotation teaching, and residency development, with responsibilities including teaching, case evaluation, and out-of-hours participation.

Applicants must be MRCVS by start date, have internship and/or 2+ years equine/mixed practice, and there is a potential pathway

  • Experience and aptitude for teaching is important.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in daily small group teaching of fourth and final year veterinary undergraduates during clinical rotations.
  • Involved in initial evaluation and diagnostic work-up of cases during normal hours and on the out-of-hours rota.
  • Manage cases within various clinical services and communicate with owners and referring veterinarians.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours resident rota (~1 in 5).

Job description

Tenure: Fixed term for up to one year (dependent on start date)

Leahurst Equine Hospital is looking to recruit an Interim Resident in Equine Surgery on a fixed term basis to maintain clinical team coverage during a period of staff turnover to ensure adequate spacing of our residency programmes.

The role is within the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital and primarily aims to support clinical activities, rotation teaching, and research, as well as CPD/Postgraduate education when required.

You will be involved in the daily small group teaching of fourth and final year veterinary undergraduates during clinical rotations.
You will be involved in the initial evaluation and diagnostic work-up of cases, both during normal working hours and as a participant in the out-of-hours rota.
You will be involved in the management of your cases, within various clinical services within the hospital. You will also be responsible for communication with the owners and referring veterinary surgeons, as directed by the Senior Clinician.

You will be required to participate in the OOH resident rota approx. 1 in 5.

This position does not involve enrolment with any EBVS college.

You must be MRCVS registered by the employment start date.

This position may suit somebody interested in a future residency position.

You should have relevant experience (suitable internship and/or at least 2 years working in equine/mixed veterinary practice), or someone who is looking to build on their knowledge and develop referral level skills in various aspects of equine work in a supportive academic environment. Experience and aptitude for teaching is also important.

N.B. applicants will be welcome to apply for the 3 year residency position when it is advertised but should note that the appointment to the interim resident position will not influence the outcome of the selection process for the resident position
