Job summary

Venn Group's Public Sector Legal team is seeking a Locum Procurement & Contracts Lawyer to join a Southeast-based Local Authority on an interim basis. The role covers procurement, contracts and related commercial matters within a busy public sector team.

The successful candidate will handle drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements, advise senior officers and stakeholders, and manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision during a 3+ month initial assignment.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with relevant commercial legal experience.
• Strong experience in procurement and contract law.
• Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Previous Local Government or wider Public Sector experience is highly desirable.
• Ability to advise confidently on complex and higher-risk non-contentious matters.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with senior officers and stakeholders.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a varied caseload independently.
• Experience of public procurement processes would be highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Providing legal advice on procurement, contracts and commercial matters.
• Managing a varied caseload of non-contentious procurement and contractual work.
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, agreements and associated documentation.
• Advising senior officers and internal stakeholders on complex and higher-risk commercial matters.
• Supporting procurement exercises and advising on legal and procedural requirements.
• Handling associated company law matters and ancillary non-contentious transactions.
• Attending meetings and committees to provide legal advice where required.
• Keeping up to date with developments in procurement and commercial law.
• Supporting the development and delivery of the wider legal service.
• Assisting with quality assurance and accreditation requirements where appropriate.
• Managing competing priorities and progressing matters efficiently with minimal supervision.
