Job Description:

The position

To create a buzz around BookTrust in the media, positioning us as the go-to organisation for anything involving children’s reading. Alongside, delivering high quality media coverage that delivers BookTrust’s key messages, and builds our profile in the most positive way possible.

Main Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Head of Communications & Campaigns in creating and delivering BookTrust’s media strategy
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate media plans for campaigns, parent-facing programmes, and prizes
  • Generate targeted stories and hooks
  • Build expertise in media, including publications and journalists
  • Create creative hooks and campaign ideas for high-quality coverage
  • Review media for relevant conversations and opportunities
  • Draft comments, opinion pieces, and letters as appropriate
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of consumer and parenting media
  • Pitch stories and ideas to media outlets
  • Understand and communicate BookTrust’s messages, research, and campaigns
  • Collaborate with campaigns, digital, and marketing teams
  • Create compelling copy for newsletters and other materials
  • Manage celebrity ambassadors and media relationships
  • Maintain relationships with media contacts and partners
  • Respond to media inquiries promptly
  • Arrange interviews and brief spokespeople
  • Draft press releases, letters, and articles
  • Source stories and write copy for various platforms
  • Research and share relevant news with staff
  • Keep staff informed of press activities
  • Monitor media coverage and produce reports
  • Maintain a media contacts database
  • Attend events to brief media and spokespeople
  • Act as a BookTrust ambassador to the media

Required skills and experience:
