Job Description:

We are working with a charity looking for an interim Policy and Public Affairs Manager to join their team for a contract role until the end of August.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Policy: Develop and drive proactive policy and public affairs projects and campaigns in consultation with the Head of Policy, Public Affairs and Research and the wider team.
  • Manage and develop evidence-based policy briefings and reports for internal and external audiences, including colleagues, politicians, and journalists.
  • Manage responses to consultations, calls for evidence, and inquiries within the charity's area of expertise.
  • Analyze relevant debates, reports, statistical releases, select committee inquiries, and parliamentary questions, providing updates, briefings, and advice.
  • Manage and produce analysis and distribution of key statistics and research relevant to the charity's policy aims, collaborating with the wider directorate.
  • Work closely with frontline staff and service users to ensure policy positions are informed by their needs and experiences, supporting staff and service user policy engagement.
Public Affairs/Influencing:
  • Develop and implement strategic influencing plans aligned with the charity's policy priorities.
  • Manage relationships with Ministers, MPs, Peers, officials, advisers, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the charity at meetings with key stakeholders and sector partners.
  • Present policy positions and recommendations at events, conferences, and briefings.
  • Potentially act as a spokesperson for the charity in the media.
Campaigns:
  • Collaborate with Communications & Marketing and Digital Mobilisation & Engagement Teams to identify campaign objectives, develop strategies, and support campaigns.
  • Provide policy input into campaigns and media strategies.
Person Specification:
  • Experience in developing policy positions, influencing policy, and achieving change in social or criminal justice areas.
  • Experience working at a strategic level across various organizations, including government and agencies.
  • Ability to identify issues requiring policy change and develop influencing strategies.
  • Experience in drafting briefings for parliamentarians, officials, and colleagues, and submissions to consultations.
  • Experience in lobbying and media activity is desirable.
  • This role is subject to a Basic DBS check.
Whats on Offer:
  • Day rate of £-£ per day PAYE + holiday pay.
  • Full or Part-time hours.
  • Early May start.
  • Hybrid working pattern, London or remote options.
  • 3-month contract.
