Job summary

Vivid Resourcing Ltd is seeking an experienced Planning Officer to join a local authority in Oadby on an interim basis. You will manage a caseload of planning applications from validation to recommendation, working independently and prioritising a busy workload.

The role requires sound knowledge of the planning system, strong written communication and the ability to engage with applicants, agents and councillors.

Qualifications

• Degree or postgraduate qualification in town planning or a related discipline.
• Membership of the RTPI, or progress towards it.
• Experience in development management within a local authority or comparable setting.
• Sound knowledge of the National Planning Policy Framework and planning legislation.
• Experience managing a caseload and meeting statutory deadlines.
• Strong report writing, negotiation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of planning applications, including householder, minor and other development proposals.
• Assess applications against national and local planning policy and other material considerations.
• Carry out site visits and prepare clear, well-reasoned officer reports and recommendations.
• Consult with statutory consultees, internal teams and neighbours, and consider the responses received.
• Negotiate amendments with applicants and agents to achieve acceptable schemes.
• Draft planning conditions and, where required, contribute to legal agreements.
• Respond to pre-application enquiries and general planning queries.
• Support enforcement matters and appeals as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and meet statutory deadlines and performance targets.
