Job summary

The Institute of Physics (IOP) is seeking an Interim People & Talent Partner to lead payroll, recruitment, and HR advisory during a secondment through May 2027. This role requires strong knowledge of UK employment law, robust payroll & recruitment experience, and the ability to guide managers on HR matters.

Based in London with flexible, hybrid working and a base office, you will collaborate across departments to ensure compliant, efficient people processes while maintaining a high standard

Qualifications

• Sound knowledge of UK employment legislation and its practical application.
• Strong recruitment and payroll experience across end-to-end processes.
• Understanding of HR lifecycle and best practices.
• High level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for influencing and advising on complex matters.
• Line manager experience.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience coaching and developing employees to achieve objectives.
• Strategic thinking and proactive problem solving.
• Strong HR systems knowledge including iTrent, Harbour, and MyFlex.

Responsibilities

• Lead and sign off all payroll related activities with internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage end to end recruitment activity and onboarding to secure high-quality candidates quickly.
• Coach and support managers on HR policies, processes, and lifecycle matters.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of People services and HR systems.
• Line manage the People Officer.
