Interim Medical Lead And Responsible Officer – Remote

National Locums is assisting a Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland in their search for a Medical Lead/Responsible Officer.

This Trust is seeking short-term cover for 6 months while they appoint a permanent candidate. The role is senior medical leadership and requires extensive experience.

The position is part-time, offering 4-5 PAs per week with flexible delivery options that are negotiable. Most of the work can be performed remotely, with a few in-person meetings scheduled over the 6 months.

The Medical Lead and Responsible Officer will serve as the RO for Responsible Officers in the independent sector and medical staff. The ideal candidate will provide senior leadership across health and social care services, demonstrating diplomacy, assertiveness, and the ability to handle challenging conversations. • Experience in a medical leadership role at Clinical Director level or equivalent.
• Experience as an RO or significant work as a medical appraiser.
• Experience with the Maintaining High Professional Standards procedure.
• GMC license to practice and registration on the specialist register.
• Proven leadership in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of clinical and medical governance, Responsible Officer Regulations, quality improvement, and the Maintaining High Professional Standards Framework.
• Understanding of the HSC system in Northern Ireland.
• Experience in healthcare inspections or reviews as a medical peer reviewer.
• Experience in patient-based research or Quality Improvement.
• Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
